In the southern part of Lithuania, 135 kilometers from Vilnius and Kaunas, surrounded by beautiful pine forests and lakes Dzukija located the oldest spa and mud therapy resort of Lithuania - Druskininkai.
Historic documents mention Druskininkai area and its salt springs starting from the XVI century.
Origins and Modern History
Local resident P. Surauchyus discovered healing properties of salt water, and began to treat the people and in 1838 the first hospital was built with fourteen baths and villas to settle patients landscaped resort grounds, based also the summer theater.
Druskininkai (Druskininkai),located 130 km south of Vilnius - the oldest and largest resort in Lithuania, famous for its mineral springs and curative mud, clean air and nature. Already in the 19th century Druskininkai was considered the most popular and luxurious resort in the Baltic States.
During Soviet times, there were a sanatorium, where the rest of Soviet elite in the 90s resort was covered with dust, old and wilted.
