Vitamin B13: Why It’s Important
Vitamin B13 (orotic acid) is involved in the synthesis of phospholipids, nucleic acids, bilirubin. This material is non-toxic, since there are no side effects from its excess in the body. The daily requirement for each person may vary depending on age, presence of severe disease, exercise, diet.
This vitamin is water soluble and is rapidly degraded under the influence of temperature.
Vitamin B13 Useful Properties

Indications for Vitamin B13 Use
As a medical drug vitamin B13 (potassium orotate) is applied in the following cases:
- heart failure, chronic type,
- viral hepatitis,
- gastric ulcer, duodenal ulcer,
- infectious disease,
- post-operative recovery period.
Effectiveness of orotic acid has been detected in children from 6 months to 10 years, suffering from skin diseases (atopic dermatitis, eczema, ichthyosis, psoriasis).
Vitamin B13 is prescribed to patients in order to improve tolerability of such drugs: sulfonamides, antibiotics, delagil, rezohin, steroid hormones.
Sources of Vitamin B13
Highest concentration of vitamin B13 is found in milk, dairy products, liver, yeast, roots and plants. A certain amount of this vitamin is synthesized in the human intestine and is excreted in breast milk for lactating women.
Orotic acid is well tolerated by the body, but in the case of reception of additional higher doses may be allergic dermatosis that after the drug quickly passes.
