Lipoic or thioctic, para-aminobenzoic acid (vitamin N) is vitamin-like substance. It is located in different body organs to a greater degree the heart, liver and kidneys. It is a light yellow crystalline powder with a bitter taste and special odor. This substance is soluble in fats and decomposes during the heat treatment.

Daily Requirements of Vitamin N

In healthy adults, the need for vitamin N is 25-50 mg. night.

Children of all ages should consume 12.5-25 mg. of this vitamin daily.

For regnant, lactating women, people with liver diseases daily requirement increases to 75 mg.

Vitamin N Influence in the Body

Lipoic acid is involved in:

  • biological oxidation processes,
  • providing the body with energy,
  • formation of coenzyme A promotes proper metabolism of proteins, carbohydrates and fats.

Lipoic acid in organism is closely related to the amino acid lysine and protein. Lipoic acid - lysine - this is the most active form of vitamin N.

Lipoic acid protects the liver, reduces blood sugar, promotes normal growth, normalizes cholesterol and fat metabolism.

Vitamin N protects the body in case of penetration of toxic substances such as heavy metal salts . It supports the work of the thyroid gland, protects the body from solar radiation, improves eyesight.

Lipoic acid prevents oxidation of vitamin E and ascorbic acid.

Sources of Vitamin N

Lipoic acid are products of animal and vegetable origin. The highest concentration is found in dairy products, heart, kidneys, liver, beef, mushrooms, spinach, yeast and some vegetables. A certain amount of vitamin is produced by microorganisms found in the human gut.

Vitamin N Deficiency

Expressed signs of lipoic acid shortages have been identified. When there is possible deficiency it leads to liver dysfunction, which leads to disruption of bile. Can also occur atherosclerotic vascular lesions, digestive disorders, skin allergies.

Lipoic Acid Excess

Excess of vitamin N, obtained from food has no adverse effects on the body, as can it can easily be deduced. Vitamin deficiencies can arise only if taking lipoic acid as a drug.

Main symptoms of overdose of vitamin N are: heartburn, sour stomach, pain in the epigastric region. You may experience allergic reactions manifested by inflammation and lesions of the skin.
